The Year of the Eucharist

On June 18, 2017 within the Diocese of Rochester. we began a Year of the Eucharist, which will end on June 3, 2018, as declared by our Bishop, Salvatore Matano. We are reminded of how important the Eucharist is in our lives. Our Parish is well prepared for this celebration as we have been reminded of our need to put Jesus and the Blessed Sacrament in the center of our sanctuary and our lives.

This Year of the Eucharist is also a time to consider how we prepare to receive Our Lord in the Eucharist. Am I dressed appropriately for Mass in a way that conveys my respect and love for the Lord? Am I on time for Mass? Do I pay attention to the readings, and the homily? Do I sing at Mass? Do I fast from food (not including medicine) one hour before receiving Our Lord in Holy Communion? When the Minister says “The Body of Christ,” do I say “Amen” in a clear and audible way? Do I receive the Blood of Christ? Do I make every effort to pray to the Lord as I sit or kneel after receiving Holy Communion and prayerfully wait for the end of Mass?

If we feel, after reflecting on these questions, we need to change the way we prepare for or participate in the Mass, may we ask the Lord to help us to change and enter into the Eucharistic Celebration in a deeper way.

I invite you to read the attached letter from Bishop Matano, which reflects so beautifully on the meaning of this year-long Celebration, and to click here for additional information.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Bill Coffas, Pastor
